Andy Warhol once said that shoes can be art; it’s safe to say that Kat Maconie’s eye-catching designs fall into that category. From Taylor Swift to Rita Ora her statement heels have put a spring in the step of some of the world’s most fashionable women.
This British designer took the world by storm with her eponymous footwear brand. A two-time winner of Drapers Shoe Designer of the Year, Kat has collaborated with runway designers, Ashley Williams and Teatum Jones; built a loyal clientele and a global network of prestigious stockists.
As you can imagine, The Shoe Curator is 'over the moon' to be bringing Kat Maconie shoes to New Zealand exclusively!
Last week we hosted a VIP night for our kindred to celebrate and welcome Kat's shoes. We were able to experience her works of art in the flesh, and had a live chat with Kat from her London office.
Kat was as bubbly, bright and engaging as her shoes! She shared with us her vision for her brand - born on her daily tube trips where she witnessed many a woman switching her heels to sneakers (before it was cool) to make the journey to/from work.
Her goal was to design shoes that were as comfortable as they were beautiful, bold and empowering.
It wasn't long before her designs were featured in Vogue and being worn by bold fashion icons such as Paula Abdul and Jessie J.
We asked Kat which of her designs was her favourite - hoping it wouldn't be like asking which is her to choose a favourite child (luckily she only has one, although her dog Doris is a very close second). She confessed that the Aya is still her favourite and she loves releasing a variation of it in each season's collection.
Choosing which styles to order from the KM SS22 collection was a challenge to say the least... hence we ended up with 21 styles from this release! It's a collection that was created carefully for a post-pandemic metamorphosis. In this ‘new normal’ when escapism is high on the agenda, each design is an answer to the question “what does desire even look like for our community?”
It could look like the mood-boosting CALYPSO, with an embroidered adornment of tropical floral (reminiscent of the bird of paradise) that flourishes in organic brights. Or the point-toe pumps RAFI, delivered stacked with big 3D blooms crafted in a soothing yet upbeat palette of fruity Satsuma and watermelon hues - to satisfy those desires for something special.
From extravagance to softness, the SS22 collection is an invitation to indulge your fashion appetite. We are delighted to extend this invitation to the women of New Zealand.
