It’s that time of year again and here at The Shoe Curator we are ALL ABOUT The Christchurch Gala. This year marks the second Gala Christchurch has seen, and as much as we love a good excuse to get dressed up and have a dance, the reason for this spectacular event, mental health, is what we are really here for.
We are all aware by now that not just nationally, but globally, we are in the midst of a mental health crisis. So this fundraiser isn’t about awareness, it’s about action. Gala organisers Helena Lowe and Zane Tate, along with special guest Mike King, bring our attention to Gumboot Friday and I Am Hope this Saturday the 5th of August. These two charitable organisations are vital to seeing the mental health crisis addressed as they exist to provide counselling and support to the youth of Aotearoa. And the issue of children's mental health is everybody's business.
We are proud to be Gold Sponsors of The Gala, in addition to doing our own in-house fundraising through our Collection For A Cause initiative. For the months of July and August we are donating 10% of the sales from our Gala Collection to the Gala fundraising efforts.
Collection For A Cause is designed to promote a range of charitable organisations and a way for TSC Kindred, by proxy, to get on board and contribute through their shoe purchases, thereby giving luxury fashion more meaning. Each month we fundraise for a different charity by curating a special collection and sharing the love.
Over the past 18 months TSC has been able to bring awareness and support to organisations such as Aviva, Ronald McDonald House, The Christchurch and Auckland City Missions, Rainbow Youth, Pink Shirt Day, Daffodil Day, Blue September, BrainTree Trust, Gumboot Friday and I Am Hope.
The theme of this year's Gala is ‘Higher Love - Fashion and Euphoric Embodiment’, which leaves everything to the imagination! As attendees we are having to look within and find a way to express this uniquely, and we expect it is going to be an extraordinary revelation for each individual.
So what is everyone wearing?!
It’s the big topic we have all been talking about for months! The team here at TSC answered this question with shoes first...
Maree, AKA ‘Mrs N’, has chosen the United Nude Loop in Luxe. She says “This shoe fits so perfectly with the theme of my outfit and it is ultra comfortable, I want to be able to dance the night away and keep my shoes on!”
Nikitta is wearing the Kat Maconie Faye. She says “This shoe is what I have been calling my ‘Spirit Shoe’, like a spirit-animal but in shoe form. It definitely expresses higher love to me in that life goes through seasons and we change, develop and are reborn just like a butterfly.”
And Nicole, The Shoe Curator Founder will be judging best dressed at The Gala while wearing the Casadei Scarpa Mermaid. She says “All will be revealed on the evening as my higher love expression is a bit of a tip top secret...you will have to come to find out!”
